13 Kapisha rioters nabbed, among them 5 Juveniles

Police in Chingola have apprehended 13 suspects in connection with the riotous behaviour and arson cases that saw the burning of four vehicles among them two vehicles belonging to Chingola Municipal Council, over the weekend.

Police in Chingola had running battles with the residents of Kapisha Township after Council Officers were burying a decomposed dead body of unidentified person who was found at the banks of Kafue river

Copperbelt Police Commanding Officer Peacewell Mweemba said the suspects were interviewed in connection with the offence and most of them declined to give details to the police.

Mr Mweemba said only one of the suspects told the Police that the motor vehicles in question were burnt by a person nicknamed Dophy other names not known.

He said the said suspect led the Police to the residence of Dophy but unfortunately, by the time the police reached his house, he had already fled.

Mr Mweemba said docket of case was opened and investigations were instituted into the matter and on September 25, 2023 at around 04:00 hours, Police apprehended 13 suspects in connection with the matter.

He identified the suspects as Temwani Simukonda 19, Nathan Mwale 21, Brian Mwale 17, David Mwansa 18, Ebar Chanda 19, Edward Mwenya 24, David Chibanga 27, Gilbert Mwansa 14.

Others are David Mukakila 28, Mary Nakandawila 16, Mary Mwansa 17 and Jane Mubanga  17, all of Kapisha Township.

Investigation continues into the matter.
